Sawyer Preston – Soccer Scholarship, Western Washington University
Oakville Ontario native and Canadian citizen Sawyer Preston completed a brilliant 4-year career. Graduating in 2017 playing soccer for the Vikings of Western Washington University (Washington State, USA) on a 4-year soccer scholarship. He finished his academic undergraduate degree majoring in Kinesiology & Organic Chemistry specializing in pre-healthcare. All the while, planning on attending medical school next year concentrating on sports medicine to become an Orthopedic Surgeon.
Sawyer used Varsity Street to help him throughout the entire recruiting process 3 years prior to receiving his soccer scholarship. He was fortunate to consider several D-1 offers before settling on D-2 school Western Washington. WWU competes in the GNAC (Greater Northwest Athletic Conference). Sawyer’s primary motivation was education and soccer as the “vehicle”. He knew there could have been a potential pro career if he choose to go that route.
In His Own Words
“I didn’t know anything when it came to the US College recruitment process. Varsity Street was incredible when it came to explaining everything while helping me build a strategy plan and really how to position myself in my communications with coaches. I settled on WWU even though it wasn’t a D-1 school (had a competing offer from USD) because academically it was the best fit and I really liked my coaches. They were patient and supportive where I enjoyed all four years and will value my scholarship opportunity for the rest of my life. Although my competitive soccer days are finished, I will use the experience to go forward in the medical field and perhaps give back to the sport through coaching with a minor league team. Thanks Varsity Street for all your help and guidance. –Sawyer Preston
